Vice President of Field Operations and Logistics

Summary
We are seeking an energetic, creative, results-driven VP of Field Operations to join the Zipcar team based in Cambridge, MA. Reporting directly to the President and Chief Operating Officer, this position is responsible for maximizing company performance by driving fleet and parking utilization, efficiency and effectiveness through lean processes, a focus on best practices and training, as well as a keen focus on business analytics and strategic oversight.
This position is responsible for strategic planning, national vendor development, relationship management, policy setting, compliance oversight and analysis and may participate in negotiations for fleet financing lines. This position directs fleet procurement and remarketing and national parking contracts and also sets policy and best practices relating to vehicle assignment, inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of company-wide automotive fleet.
The VP of Field Operations is also responsible for developing and delivering management reporting and training to support operational priorities and provide understanding to apply knowledge in a day-to-day field management environment. Individual works closely with assigned group and market leadership teams to ensure good communication effective use of reporting and analysis tools and implementation of best practices and other continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Analysis, Reporting and Business Case Development: With the Financial Planning and Analysis Group, evaluate existing fleet management and regulatory compliance activities, protocols, and procedures. Utilize information, data and formal analysis to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities. Prioritize needed changes and make recommendations that consider available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.
- Financial, Data and Performance Management: Provide for the most economical, safe, and environmentally sensitive use of fleet resources. Manage and strategically enhance relevant information technology systems. Create and actively manage performance metrics to proactively measure and report on critical areas, including: cost; utilization; member satisfaction; regulatory and fleet policy compliance; energy and emissions efficiency
- Strategy and Business Planning: Conduct assessments and develop associated plans based on logical assumptions, facts, available resources, and constraints. Effectively execute plans and monitor progress. Identify and address key strategic barriers and opportunities critical to the success of local operations. Identify partners/alliances/opportunities to expand in metro markets.
- Coaching and Development: Ensure knowledge transfer for field-based Fleet Managers on key business processes. Champion a customer-focused, results-oriented culture inside and outside the Fleet/Operations organization.
- Customer and Stakeholder Management: Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with Zipcar's lines of business, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Maintain Zipcar brand standards for vehicles and locations. Develop tools and training to ensure local teams implement standards consistently.
- Employee Relations and Team Development: Use appropriate methods and a flexible interpersonal style to build a supportive and cohesive work environment. Take action to build strategic relationships between one's area and other areas, teams, departments, units, or organizations.
- Policy Development, Communication, and Oversight: Develop, implement and regularly review field operations management and regulatory compliance program policies, procedures, and oversight mechanisms. Clearly convey and receive information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience, helps them understand and retain the message, and permits response, feedback, and management oversight.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have the following experience, skills, and education:
- Bachelor’s degree required. MBA or financial planning and analysis experience preferred
- (±15 years) Relevant management experience, including 7+ years of supervisory and management responsibility for assets and operations
- Familiarity with lean operations and six sigma quality discipline
- Proven operational and technical expertise in all aspects of fleet management and knowledge of best practices
- Strong policy-making, analysis, strategic visioning, customer service, change management, team development and leadership skills
- Prior P&L responsibility
- Ability to identify, prioritize and focus on critical tasks
- Demonstrated supervisory experience and ability to hire key employees
- Experience working with government, businesses, and non-profits
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and contact management software
